Constitution of Kempo Kobudō Scotland
We, the members of Kempo Kobudo Scotland, recognise the rich heritage and profound philosophy of Kobudō and Katsuki Ryu Karate, and hereby establish this Constitution to govern our martial arts school. Committed to preserving and evolving these traditional martial arts, we affirm our dedication to safety, inclusivity and the cultivation of personal knowledge and development through physical education to our membership and the wider community.
Article I: Name, Affiliation, and Specialisation
Name: The name of this martial arts school shall be Kempo Kobudo Scotland, referred to herein as "the school".
Affiliation: The school shall maintain affiliation with the Independent Martial Art Association (IMASA) for insurance and recognition purposes, while also drawing guidance from relevant governing bodies such as Sport Scotland.
Specialisation: The school specialises in Kobudō, focusing on traditional weapons such as the katana, nunchaku, bo, sai, kama, tonfa, tekko, tanbo, and eku, as well as Katsuki Ryu Karate, derived from Shotokan, renowned for its profound philosophy and precision.
Article II: Purposes and Training
Purposes: The purposes of the school include promoting the sport and practice of Kobudō and Katsuki Ryu Karate, fostering a safe and welcoming environment, and preserving the values and philosophies of these traditional martial arts.
Training: Training includes kihon (basics), kata (forms and patterns), and kumite (sparring), conducted using approved training equipment within a safe and controlled environment.
Article III: Membership and Community
Eligibility: Membership is open to individuals of all ages (5+), abilities, and skill levels, who subscribe to the purposes of the school and agree to abide by its Constitution, Code of Conduct, Health and Safety rules, and Terms and Conditions.
Community: The school fosters a relaxed and friendly environment, encouraging camaraderie, mutual respect, and the sharing of knowledge among students, instructors, and the wider community.
Article IV: Curriculum and Philosophy
Curriculum: The school offers a very comprehensive, full-time curriculum dedicated solely to Kobudō, covering a wide range of traditional weapons without requiring concurrent or prior training in another martial art, and a separate Katsuki Ryu Karate curriculum.
Philosophy: Our aim is to preserve and respectfully evolve these traditional martial arts, remaining deeply rooted in their original values and philosophies.
Article V: Governance and Leadership
Governance: The school shall be governed by this Constitution and ensure alignment with the purposes and principles outlined herein.
Leadership: The school shall be led by a Master of at least 2nd Dan (Nidan), responsible for the technical content of lessons and the curriculum, with additional Instructors nominated by the Master.
Article VI: Community Engagement
Promotion of Values: The Master of the school shall be responsible for promoting the school's values of knowledge and development through physical education to the wider community.
Free Sessions and Classes: The school shall organise and offer free sessions or classes aimed at promoting active lifestyles and community involvement, in alignment with its values and mission.
Outreach: Through community engagement initiatives, the school shall seek to inspire and empower individuals of all backgrounds to participate in martial arts, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being within the community.
